Do try this at home!
Ms Patel reports on a science lesson like no other
On Friday 20th June 2025, Key Stage 3 students were given a real treat in the Main Hall…
Surprising Science, performed by Dr Matt Pritchard, is a show packed with tricks and stunts, all to encourage scientific enquiry and critical thinking. Many of the puzzles were performed with common household items, allowing the audience to go away and try them for themselves.
Touching upon electromagnetics, forces and psychology, as well as possible future careers within science, the show left the students in awe of the many things that are possible with everyday objects.
‘I enjoyed the performance because it was funny and interesting,’ says Leah Padhra in Year 7. ‘I loved all the magic tricks and how they related to science.’
‘I found the magic performance extremely enjoyable,’ adds Armaan Sharm, also in Year 7. ‘The performer showed us many hilarious and mind-blowing tricks, while also explaining the science behind everything. I loved it! Ten out of ten.’
‘The entirety of KS3 had such a good time,’ concludes Ms Patel. ‘They picked up lots of interesting ideas about science in everyday life and how it can trick the brain. The students were enthralled by the different tricks, and they were definitely itching to go home and try some.’
Watch out, mum and dad! The kids have definitely got something up their sleeves…
