Why study this course
A Level Mathematics will enable students to develop their subject knowledge and be confident in mathematical reasoning and mathematical modelling. Pupils will experience the application of Maths in a variety of contexts and be able to develop their problem solving skills. Pupils will be able to present a mathematical argument clearly and concisely. Pupils will become confident using a graphical calculator and be supported to use the formulae booklet. Pupils will be encouraged and supported in exploring new mathematical concepts and exploring problems to become adept mathematicians in their future fields of work or study.
Pupils will finish their Key stage 5 education with the subject knowledge and confidence to move on to work or further study. Students will understand mathematical processes in a way to promote confidence, foster enjoyment and provide a strong foundation to progress to further study and employment.
Course Overview
We follow the Pearson Edexcel textbooks which supports the Edexcel mathematics curriculum. Students will get access to the textbooks via Active Learn when they start the course. The course allows students to build on the knowledge and conceptual understanding from KS4 and allows lots of opportunities for application. Students need to have a good understanding of the topics so that they can apply it to a range of exam questions and real life examples.
The checklist below contains all the topics that you will cover in Year 12 and 13.
