Barcelona! How can I forget?

Ms Abrahams reports on MFL’s latest trip abroad
From 19th to 23rd May 2026, forty Year 10 students accompanied by Ms Abrahams, Ms Riyani El Assaad, Mr Mundy and Ms François stayed at the Hotel Salome in Calafell, a seaside town outside of Barcelona. They were there to visit the capital city of Spain’s Catalonia region and absorb the Spanish culture.
The staff and students went to Park Güell, a traditional Spanish market, ate tapas, saw the gothic cathedral plus the port, spent a day in a theme park and also played on the beach.
‘Barcelona was an incredible experience where we got to try Spanish food and experience the culture through amazing places such as Park Güell and the monastery in Monserrat,’ explains Salvador Figueroa Navarrete 10.9. ‘My favourite part of the trip was going to the theme park as the adrenaline rush from the rollercoasters was amazing! This experience allowed me to see how people in other countries live, and also helped me socialise with people I wouldn’t normally talk to.’
‘My highlight was the theme park and spending evenings at the beach,’ says Aleesa Ahmed 10.8. ‘I improved my Spanish speaking skills and learnt more about Spanish culture.’
‘My highlights were the beach at night and the cable cars, which offered a beautiful view of Spain,’ adds Jayni Harsiyani 10.7. ‘I gained a greater understanding of Spanish culture and speaking more of the language will definitely help me in the future.’
‘From this experience, I learnt words and phrases that I never knew before,’ says Mario Florea 10.4.
‘In over twenty years of organising and attending school trips, I can honestly say that this was one of the best,’ concludes Ms Abrahams. ‘The kids were charming and never complained about anything. They were polite, engaged and great fun. The hotel congratulated us on our pupils, which made us very proud.’
