Claremont sets sail with MOANA

And the ocean chose… Student reporters Maria Sumanariu 8.7, Darius Rusu 8.8 and Yashvi Bodara 8.9 meet the cast of Claremont High School's latest production

The waves were tall at Claremont with a stirring sea of amazing performers stepping up to take part in the school’s annual production. The hall was filled with eager students from all different year groups ready to audition…

Claremont's Drama Department has chosen 'Moana' for this year's annual school production. Auditions took place on Tuesday 30th September for KS3 and Wednesday 1st October for KS4. Students were divided into different groups and tested on their dramatic abilities, soon demonstrating, in the words of Moana herself, ‘How far they'll go’ – a nice link with our co-curricular motto: ‘Take part, get involved, try something new.’

‘We were absolutely thrilled with the "Moana" auditions!’ says Ms Norrish, Head of Drama. ‘Over 180 students took part, which is an incredible level of interest and a record-breaking number for us. It made casting the show both exciting and extremely difficult for all the staff involved!’

‘I was extremely happy and excited to be cast,’ says Savannah Kassouf in 8.3, playing Pua. ‘Acting and performing in musicals is my passion and Claremont has staged some of the best productions through their creative use of dancing and singing. It’s an extremely exciting and fun thing to be a part of.’

‘I cannot wait to bring my character, Moana, to life and act with all the other cast members, because every single one of them is extremely talented,’ says Tiah Davda, also in 8.3. ‘We have an amazing "Moana" Staff Team who will help anyone come out of their comfort zone.’

As the excitement builds, the Claremont community equally cannot wait to see how the talented students bring the spirit of 'Moana' to life… The ocean chooses you!
