Claremont High School Academy

From static to stories

Student Reporters Aimee Desai 10.6 and Tanay Bhardwaj 10.7 talk to members of Claremont High School’s Radio FM Club about creativity and community

Every alternate Wednesday, a band of students come together in L14 where they plan their radio script for Claremont’s very own Radio FM Club, led by Head of Music, Mr Williams. The podcasts will soon be available on the school website.

The club brings together an ensemble of school events, student stories and creative ideas, all guided by Mr Williams. He commented: ‘I wanted to create a space where students could express themselves creatively and share their voices with the school community. We have so many talented and interesting students with different opinions, senses of humour and passions, it just made sense to give them a platform.’

Each session, students brainstorm stories from around school, workshop segments - ranging from interviews to comedy sketches - and plan their upcoming script. Once episodes are complete, the club hopes to upload them to the school website, giving the whole community a chance to listen in.

Mr Williams also hopes that ‘Claremont FM will provide students with insight into the podcasting and radio sectors of the music industry, preparing them for future employment’. And in the near future the club may also be ‘putting on a live show and using the Tannoy system for greater visibility of the podcast’.

Club member Parin Kabriya 8.6 said: ‘I've really been enjoying the Radio Club so far. I like the vibe and atmosphere of it.’ Rosie Wooldridge 8.1 said she enjoyed ‘working with my teammate, recording and writing the script’.  Several members are especially excited to try presenting on-air for the first time.

Whether you’re into music, storytelling, tech, or just want an excuse to talk without being told to be quiet, Radio Club might just be your next move. With creativity buzzing and new episodes on the horizon, Claremont FM is definitely something worth tuning in to.
