Inspiring the Future Through the Power of Public Speaking 🎤🌍

This weekend, I had the immense privilege of witnessing our brilliant Year 11 students from Claremont High  School take the stage at Speaking for Tomorrow: The Health & Earth Challenge at Imperial College London. Competing against around 25 teams from some of the UK’s other leading independent, grammar and state schools, they delivered speeches that were not only thought-provoking but also deeply passionate and solution-focused.

A huge congratulations to Bhavyaa, Amy and Foram  who performed exceptionally well—demonstrating eloquence, confidence, and outstanding teamwork. 👏

A  very special and well-deserved recognition goes to Pedram, Uday, Tiago, Teyago and Jaishal who achieved a truly brilliant feat: qualifying for the final and securing a spot in the top 4 teams! Their ability to captivate the audience with their clarity, creativity, and conviction was nothing short of exceptional.

Throughout the competition, students tackled some of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time, delivering two ten-minute speeches on:

🌫 How can we tackle air pollution?
🌍 Effective strategies to combat the impact of plastic use and waste

For our finalists, an additional speech stood between them and the winning title—and they rose to the occasion with tremendous composure, insight, and passion, delivering a captivating speech examining:

💡 A critical analysis of the efficacy and importance of start-ups and SMEs in tackling sustainability and climate issues

You can see ' The Green Guys ' 10 minute entry  - it is well worth taking a short moment to be inspired by their words and eloquence. (video at beginning)

I could not be prouder of all our students for demonstrating such excellence. Their success is a testament to their dedication, hard work, and courage. The Year 11 are an absolute credit to the school and a shining example of what young people can achieve when given the opportunity to express their ideas in environments such as the world's second best University!

A huge thank you to SustainaPod, Imperial College London, and the UCL Public Speaking Society for organising such an inspiring and impactful event.

This is what the future looks like—brilliant young minds, stepping up to tackle the challenges of tomorrow. 🌱✨

Quote for one of  ' The  Green Guys  Uday

On the 15th of March 2025, I had the incredible opportunity to compete in the Imperial College London  UK Public Speaking Competition with my team, 'The Green Guys'. We delivered three presentations, starting with one on Clean Air, which we had prepared in advance. Next, we had just two hours to craft and present a speech on plastic pollution, which went flawlessly. Thanks to our hard work and teamwork, we made it to the final round, where we presented on startups and their impact.  We were judged by two scientific geniuses: Dr Popo-Ola and Dr Ghosh. Although we didn’t win, we secured second place, a huge achievement! It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and I couldn’t have done it without my amazing team and all the hard work we put in.
A massive thank you goes to Ms Arbani for her unwavering support, encouragement and guidance, without whom... we would not have been able to do this !

Quote from Bhavyaa, Leader of Quantum Pioneers

Opportunities like this one at Imperial College London,,,, are few and far between. We were able to grab this one with open arms. We spent months preparing for this day. It was a true privilege to share a room with 20 other top schools in the UK. We were really put through our paces. Ten hours of intense preparation and delivery across three rounds of STEM Public speaking, was no mean feat!
I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience with my team and I know that this was a unique opportunity that I am very grateful for. This kind of day allows students to realise that aspirations really can become a reality when you invest time and effort into a goal.
I would like to thank out STEAM leader Ms Arbani for providing us with this amazing experience. She is a true female STEM legend of the school who instills and empowers such confidence and ambition in us!

‘What a fantastic achievement,’ concludes Ms Arbani. ‘The students will have this experience on their CVs forever… Green Guys, you are legends!’
