Smiles from first to last

Claremont High School competes at the 2026 Brent Athletics
The annual Brent Athletics took place at Willesden Sports Centre on 5th and 7th May 2026, with students from years 7 to 10 taking part across the two days.
Year 7 pupils delivered some great performances at the event, returning with a gold medal in shot put and multiple qualifications for the finals. It was a memorable experience for all involved and the students represented the school with real effort and enthusiasm throughout the day.
Year 8 were well-represented by Daniel Pop, who won gold in the discus event with a throw of 20.02 metres, and the Year 8 girls came second in the relay race.
Year 9 pupils were also proud Claremont champions. The team secured gold medals in the long jump for both boys and girls, plus a silver medal in the boys’ 300 metres and a bronze in the relay race. To round off a great day, the Year 9 girls finished second overall out of all the schools.
Aniya Brown waved the flag for Year 10, achieving the qualifying time in the 100-metre race to be put forward for the Middlesex Championships.
‘I represented Claremont at Brent Athletics, taking part in the 300 metres, the relay and discus events,’ explains Kairan Govind in Year 9. ‘My highlights were representing the school and supporting my friends. I especially enjoyed the relay race because everyone worked so well together. I learnt the importance of teamwork, determination and giving my best. The experience helped me build confidence and showed me how rewarding it is to represent your school.’
Kacper Mozgiel in Year 10 took part in the 800 metres and long jump, coming first in the latter. ‘My takeaway experience,’ he says, ‘is to try new things as you’ll never know what will work.’
Their teachers were certainly proud of them and all the students taking part. ‘It was a wholesome display of the year groups coming together to support one another for the Claremont badge,’ says Mr Benmoulai. ‘The atmosphere created by the pupils made it seem like there were no losers. There were smiles from the first race till the last jump!’
