School Prefects
At Claremont High School, our Prefects play a vital role in representing the student body and upholding the values of our school. Being a Prefect is a position of responsibility and trust, and those who are selected act as role models for all students across the school.
What is the role of a Prefect?
Prefects support the smooth running of the school by:
-
Demonstrating leadership and setting a positive example in behaviour, appearance, and attitude.
-
Supporting staff and students in daily school life, including assemblies, events, and initiatives.
-
Taking an active role in school life beyond the classroom, such as helping with charity events, leading student voice groups, and running break or lunchtime activities.
-
Promoting and living out the school’s vision and values at all times.
How do students become Prefects?
Prefects are appointed through an application process in which students must show they meet the high standards expected of the role. Applicants are considered based on three key areas:
1. Leadership Potential
Students must demonstrate the ability – or strong potential – to be leaders, taking responsibility and acting with maturity.
2. Consistently Positive Attitude
Prefect candidates must show reliability, excellent attendance and punctuality, high standards of uniform and presentation, respectful behaviour, and strong organisation and ambition in their studies.
3. Commitment to the Role
Prefects commit to regular meetings, representing the school in assemblies, supporting peers in literacy and numeracy, helping to organise charity events, and actively participating in initiatives led by the Head of Prefects.
Standards and Expectations
Once appointed, Prefects are expected to:
-
Uphold the school’s code of conduct at all times.
-
Wear their full school uniform, including the Prefect tie, with pride.
-
Maintain excellent attendance and punctuality.
-
Carry out all duties fairly and responsibly.
-
Actively support and promote the school’s ethos in everything they do.
